Pokemon Abilities
One passive ability per Pokemon. Effects activate automatically when their conditions are met.
How Abilities Work
A species can have several possible abilities, but an individual Pokemon has only one active ability. It keeps its assigned slot through trades and evolution; the ability name may change with the species or battle form.
Snorlax · Thick FatReduces damage from Fire and Ice attacks.
Gengar · Cursed BodyA hit has a 30% chance to disable the attack used.
Charizard · BlazeBoosts Fire attacks at one-third HP or below.
Battle logs name many ability activations. Some passive effects, such as damage reduction, do not need a separate activation message. New battles use the modern ability runtime; a battle already underway before the rollout can finish under its previous rules.

Hidden Abilities and Breeding
Hidden abilities are alternate species abilities, not a second simultaneous effect. Ordinary Pokemon creation rolls ordinary slots only. Breeding does not spontaneously create a hidden ability from ordinary parents.
- Ordinary ability
- With two ordinary slots, an eligible donor passes the same slot 80% of the time and the other slot 20%. A species with one ordinary slot uses that slot.
- Hidden ability
- An eligible hidden-ability donor has a 60% chance to pass the hidden slot if the offspring species supports it. The remaining 40% is shared across ordinary slots.
- Eligible donor
- The matching-family mother normally donates. With Ditto, the matching-family non-Ditto parent donates. ShadowRPG custom pairings do not bypass hidden or special-lineage restrictions.
- Eggs and evolution
- The slot is fixed when the egg is created, not rerolled on hatch. Evolution keeps the slot; a single-ability middle stage can temporarily use its ordinary ability while retaining the hidden slot for a later evolution.
- Special lineages
- Eligible Own Tempo Rockruff lineage can pass its special slot. Battle Bond Greninja cannot breed. Existing legendary breeding restrictions still apply.
ShadowRPG Rules
- Modern effects, RPG progression. Levels, variant scaling, event catch rules and account rewards remain ShadowRPG rules. Abilities can affect damage, status, weather, terrain, switching and battle forms.
- Poison stays flat. Poison and badly poisoned status deal 1/16 maximum HP each turn rather than escalating Toxic damage. Abilities can prevent or replace that damage, such as Poison Heal.
- Singles battles. Ally-only abilities such as Friend Guard and Telepathy have no ally to affect. Their reference entries are marked as limited.
- No overworld bonuses. Abilities do not generate map prizes, change encounter rates or shorten daycare timers. Pickup's battle interaction is not an account-inventory reward.
- Forms have requirements. A form-specific effect needs the matching form and any supported trigger. The extended catalog is not a list of currently obtainable Pokemon or items.
